ClockSS – Clock ScreenSaver for UIQ3

… or something like it…

Well, a lot of people miss the clock screen saver in their shiny new UIQ3 phone… so here is a sort of replacement.

It’s not a real screensaver, but looks like a screensaver, behaves like a screensaver, so it’s a pretty good estimate ;-)

Ok, and now the serious text ;-)

The program should start automatically, when the phone starts. And it also should go to the background. To controll it, just locate it in the task manager, and when you switch to it, you should see:

You can choose the timeout value from 10seconds, 1 minute (the default), 2 mintues or 10 minutes. You can also de/activate it temporary.

After the given amount of inactivity, it switches to screen saver mode:

You can switch back to normal mode (ie. “unlock the keypad”) with ‘*’ and then ‘#’ (note: you should probably need to press ALT as well, to get in numeric mode)

You can switch to a different app with the BACK key (only when you press it longer) or the internet (or hardware) key. Unfortunately I cannot change this behaviour :-( But fortunately, these keys are not easy to press by mistake.

You should turn off automatic keyguard in controll panel (otherwise you will reseave the standard unlock message).

Well, that’s it for now, awaiting opinions ;-)

Oh, and next version probably will have binary mode as well (ie. shows the clock in binary instead of decimal… just for the geeks ;-) )

Almost forgot the downoad links:

    Very nice and useful.
Much better than the standard key locked mode.

But, to me it is a bit annoying to have to press
“alt” + “*” + “alt” + “#” to get it deactivated. Is it possible to avoid the “alt” key, or to have just “alt” + “*”?

Just one pro – the analog clock hour hand only move to the next digit only when the minute reach 12. Meaning, if the time is 14:55, the display show minute hand at 11 and hour hand at 2, which indicate a time of 13:55.

I am using ClockSS, Tabu and TimeBlog together and it give a nice combination of screensaver. Wish your Tabu had more interesting and bit larger pixel running on the screen display.

I love all of them on my M600i!!!

Yeah, I observed the analog clock bug … it will be fixed … soon … I hope (today I’ll be working on Pixy since I want to release it today)

About TABU: I used sxmaller images for many reasons:
    * needs less memory (I didn’t wanted my up to eat too much memory, since we don’t have too much on the new UIQ3 handsets)
    * are faster to draw and handle… although now I think the diofference isn’t that big
    * keep in mind that sometimes the animations can hide important things. For example you want to hang up a phone call, but an animation is right in front of the softkeybuttons… it would be very annoying. That’s why I try to keep them smaller.

I agree with Martin’s observation: anyway to avoid activating ClockSS’ lock so as to use only the phone’s?

    Thanks for the great proggie!

Would be great if you could change the size of the mini clock. I think it is a bit big. As when at top of screen, it is in front of my bluetooth icon, silent symbol, etc

    Cheers

Thanks for your ClockSS, especially for the binary option. Well done

I forgot, a suggestion at least for the binary clock full screen version.

It remains at the same position on the screen.

Maybe make it start at a different position each time it is active. e.g top, middle bottom & top again etc. Or even have it move periodically whilst it is active.

I just have in my mind screen burns from the old CRT days. I don’t know if LCD screens suffer from some sort of degradation if the same few pixels are used constantly/very frequently?

Does this work on Sony Ericsson G900?

Nice tool. But when i make a call or work on the cell phone for more than 10 minutes the clock screensaver turns on and i have to unlock it again. I do not know if the is a way in uiq3 to process user interaction and stop the time couter that is responsible for activation the screensaver.

Great application! Any chance you will make the clock face move randomly? Currently, I have 0.4 and the clock face doesn’t move….

Also, I would like to have a second hand for both analog and digital clocks….

    Thanks!
